MADEMOISELLE YULIA'S MANY TALENTS
It’s been a relatively short path to success for Yulia, which started around 3 years ago when she was still in high school. She began DJ-ing at a friend’s underground club night “MEAT” in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Since, she has successfully built on her career as an electro DJ and MC in Japan, playing everywhere from underground parties to major nightclubs. In 2008 she released an electro mix album through EMI, “Neon Spread”, and her second mix release is planned for this summer.
This year Japan's own female dynamo branches out in to a whole new area with her fresh new line of accessories, Giza. The first line is a collection of bold pieces galvanized by the theme of Ancient Egypt, a powerful subject which well reflects the style and ethos of DJ/singer/designer herself. I’ve got my eye on the Tutankhamun necklace, and the Sphinx-inspired knuckle-duster is fierce.
As if launching her own brand wasn’t enough, this past year has seen her embark on a singing career to boot. Having recorded and toured with big Japanese names such as The Teriyaki Boyz and Towa Tei last year, this year she’s pushing the boat out further to include a stint rapping on Ed Banger Records’ Krazy Baldhead’s first album. “The B-Suite” is due out on April 6th , and the track “Katana Power” will be her European debut. Not bad for 21.
Meanwhile… the Giza collection is sure to be a hit in Tokyo, especially with the fashion kids. The theme of the next collection is “Fantasy”, so we can expect more powerful symbols and mystical vibes. The full Giza line has just been launched and is currently only available in Japan. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long before the collection is available internationally, and I expect we will be seeing a lot more of Mademoiselle Yulia.
